## Abstract

These rules deregulate the equipment authorization requirements for personal computers and personal computer peripherals by relaxing the equipment authorization procedures to provide a new self-authorization process based on a manufacturer's or supplier's declaration of compliance. These changes were made to reduce the regulatory burden on computer manufacturers and assemblers. This action will save industry approximately $250 million annually, permit products to reach the marketplace more quickly and stimulate competition in the computer industry.
