Abstract

NMFS extends the existing closures to scallop fishing of two Mid-Atlantic areas for an additional 180 days. These closures would have expired on September 28, 1998. The extensions are necessary to continue protection of high concentrations of juvenile scallops while permanent measures are being developed by the New England Fishery Management Council (Council).
