Abstract
NMFS is closing directed fishing for pollock by trawl vessels using nonpelagic trawl gear in Bycatch Limitation Zone 1 (Zone 1) of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) except for the red king crab savings subarea. This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 1998 bycatch allowance of red king crab apportioned to the trawl pollock/Atka mackerel/``other species'' fishery category in Zone 1.
