NMFS issues this final rule to prohibit the use of driftnet gear in the North Atlantic swordfish fishery. The purpose of this action is to improve the conservation and management of the North Atlantic swordfish resource and other marine resources; specifically, to reduce bycatch of protected resources in a manner that maximizes the benefit to the Nation.
