Abstract

Project Abstract for Discipline D, Analytical Track 2: NFSDX and ORAPP Integration For the 2020-2021 year, the West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) Information Technology (IT) Division has been in the process of integrating our WVPlants and USALIMS sample data into the National Food Safety Data Exchange. After the integration is complete, the WVDA will have a mechanism in place to facilitate an automated data exchange between the FDA and our state regulatory labs partners. All human food and animal feed samples are currently uploaded into an internal laboratory information management system at the WVDA. The data has previously electronically uploaded into eLEXNET. Due to the change of information systems within the FDA, the WVDA has agreed to transfer their current uploading mechanism to the new National Food Safety Data Exchange or NFSDX. The WVDA has demonstrated that with the structure and experience of personnel, facility infrastructure, ISO accreditation, and dedicated IT staff are committed to completing the objectives of this track. This project will enhance the human food surveillance capability and capacity of the WVDA and help support an integrated food safety system by strengthening cooperation with the FDA.
