Project Summary The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) Food, Fuel, and Disease section performs testing for mycotoxins; veterinary drugs;, Patulin, pH, aW, Total Dissolved Solids, meat fat, nutrient and heavy metals, filth, unidentified materials, fish speciation, histamine, and cannabidiol potency in food products. Through this funding opportunity the MDARD-FFD section intends work with interdepartmental agencies to increase sample volume (over 500 samples/year) and commodity type (spices, juices, CBD/THC edibles, aquaculture). The section also intends to add additional analytical methods and analytes to its human food testing program. Through discipline B, track 4 the section intends to implement a robust allergen testing program, and a more aggressive economic fraud program using advancing technologies and methodologies.
