Abstract

Discipline A: Microbiology Analytical Track 5: Microbiology Capability/Capacity Development To build additional capability and expand the national capacity in microbiological areas of emerging technology where the FDA has identified a specific need. The NH PHL will develop the capability to test for Cyclospora in human food product and environmental samples. The New Hampshire Public Health Laboratories (NH PHL) will purchase appropriate equipment and supplies such as filters, rotary shaker, vacuum manifold, heating block and reagents. The NH PHL has thermocyclers, Dynal bead system, fluorescent microscope and gel electrophoresis systems. Personnel will be trained on the FDA BAM 19b method: Molecular Detection of Cyclospora cayetanensis in Fresh Produce using real-time PCR. Appropriate proficiency testing will be either purchased or developed in-house to demonstrate competency in the newly developed method. NH PHL will participate and pass annual proficiency tests, attend the LFFM Face-to-Face meeting and monthly calls, maintain ISO 17025 accreditation, maintain facilities and personnel necessary to complete the work proposed, and provide a detailed quarterly summary of all samples collected and analyzed. The NH PHL will maintain a valid 20.88 agreement with the FDA.
