## Abstract

Discipline B: Chemistry
Analytical Track 2: Human Food Product Testing
The NH PHL plans to improve food testing surveillance programs in New Hampshire through the
chemical analysis of food products. The test results generated by these analyses can be used to
remove adulterated food from commerce and aide regulatory inspection programs in the New
Hampshire Bureau of Food Protection in conducting investigations.
The NH PHL plans to perform toxic metals analyses by ICP-MS analysis following CHE.0009, to
ensure compliance with toxic element action levels. The following commodity/hazard pairs will be
analyzed;
Commodity Hazard
Class II Dairy Products Total Arsenic
Apple juice, ciders, imported spices Toxic elements
The NH PHL will analyze a minimum of 210 Class II Dairy Products, ensuring a complete study
of this local commodity that is transported across state lines. The additional 50+ samples of local
and imported spices, juices and ciders and other FDA regulated commodities will assist both the
local communities and the FDA when combined with data from other testing sites to ensure quality
and safety in the food products originating in the State of New Hampshire.
NH PHL will participate and pass annual proficiency tests, attend the LFFM Face-to-Face meeting
and monthly Food Emergency Response Network (FERN) calls, maintain ISO 17025
accreditation of CHE.0009, maintain facilities and personnel necessary to complete the work
proposed, and provide a detailed quarterly summary of all samples collected and analyzed. The
NH PHL will maintain a valid 20.88 agreement with the FDA. Sampling will be conducted by the
NH Bureau of Food Protection, the official agency overseeing dairy farms and plants in the State
of New Hampshire, following standard FDA-approved practices.
