Abstract

Discipline B: Chemistry Analytical Track 3: Animal Food Product Testing The NH PHL plans to improve animal food testing surveillance programs through the chemical analysis of animal food products in New Hampshire. The test results generated by these analyses can be used to remove adulterated animal food from commerce and aide the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets and Foods regulatory inspection program in conducting investigations. The NH PHL plans to perform analyses for toxic metals and pesticides using FERN methods to ensure compliance with toxic element action levels and pesticide tolerances. The following commodity/hazard pairs will be analyzed; Commodity Hazard (s) Fish meal Heavy metals Fish products Toxin/ Pesticide residues The NH PHL will analyze a minimum of 250 Fish Products (mainly fish meal), ensuring a complete study of this commodity that a source of food provided for fish raised in hatcheries for sport fishing in New Hampshire. Additional samples of commodities identified by the NH DAMF as having potential for contamination may also be analyzed to assist in their investigations. NH PHL will participate and pass annual proficiency tests, attend the LFFM Face-to-Face meeting and monthly FERN calls, maintain ISO 17025 accreditation of CHE.0009 and bring other methods under this scope, maintain facilities and personnel necessary to complete the work proposed, and provide a detailed quarterly summary of all samples collected and analyzed. The NH PHL will maintain a valid 20.88 agreement with the FDA. Sampling will be conducted by the NH Bureau of Food Protection, the official agency overseeing dairy farms and plants in the State of New Hampshire, following standard FDA-approved practices.
