## Abstract

CHEMISTRY ABSTRACT
The Agricultural Chemistry Laboratory proposes four sub-projects under the chemistry
discipline for analytical track 3. These sub-projects combined, comprise the analyses of 500
samples to improve animal food testing surveillance through the chemical analysis of animal
food products. The test results generated by the proposed projects can be used to remove
adulterated animal food from commerce and aide regulatory inspection programs in conducting
investigations. Under chemistry analytical track 3: animal food product testing, the chemical
residue section of the Laboratory plans to assess 250 cat and dog food samples for aflatoxin
residues by traditional HPLC technology as well as screen these same samples by using and
automated ELISA technology for aflatoxin as well as 5 additional mycotoxins. The microbiology
section of the Laboratory plans to assess 100 feed samples labeled for swine, equine, and other
sensitive species for fumonisin and deoxynivalenol residues using traditional ELISA as well as
automated ELISA technology. The inorganic section of the Laboratory plans to assess 100
nonspecific animal feed and pet food samples for the presence of toxic metals using ICP-OES as
well as thermal decomposition, amalgamation, and AAS technology. Additionally, the chemical
residue section of the laboratory plans to assess 50 pet food samples for cannabis, hemp, and
CBD/THC using UPLC technology.
