# Whole Genome Sequencing

> **NIH FDA U19** · WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH · 2020 · $156,736

## Abstract

WA PHL is the clinical reference lab for the state of Washington, and is the Western
Region Reference Laboratory for both APHL PulseNet and OAMD activity, placing WAPHL in a
unique position to assist in sequencing of non-clinical pathogens found in human or animal
foods, in the environment of institutions, and in water samples. WAPHL is poised to continue
contributing to this project’s goal, to survey the diversity of non-clinical pathogens present in the
state of Washington. WA PHL will use this funding opportunity to build relationships with state
and regional facilities, to provide FDA-CFSAN support for pending sequencing projects, and to
sequence non-clinical isolates from a variety of submitters.
