Abstract

NY AGM Food Laboratory - Project Summary/Abstract: The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NY AGM) has an expansive and robust food safety inspection program and a regulatory food safety testing laboratory. The New York State Food Laboratory (Food Laboratory), a division within the NY AGM, has a mission to provide expert state of the art analytical testing in support of food safety programs in New York State. The Food Laboratory, through food testing, provides support to the divisions of Food Safety and Inspection, and Milk Control and Dairy Services. The Food Laboratory has comprehensive testing programs for chemical components, including allergen testing in food. If funded for Chemistry Discipline and Analytical Track 4 – Chemistry Capability/Capacity Development, the Food Laboratory will add to the existing allergen testing program. If funded, the following activities will be part of Food Laboratory deliverables: Purchasing of MagPix System with XPonent 4.2, training personnel on the xMAP Food Allergen Detection Assay (xMAP FADA), demonstrating competency through a proficiency test offered by a suitable proficiency testing program and attending the annual LFFM Face-to-Face Meeting. The Food Laboratory will support the FDA initiative on building additional capability and expanding the national capacity in chemical areas of emerging technology and/or where FDA has identified a specific need.
