## Abstract

Project Summary for State of Rhode Island PAR-20-105 Laboratory Flexible Funding Model
(LFFM) (U19) Application. Discipline A: Microbiology, Track 5: Microbiology
Capability/Capacity Development
Project Summary
The Rhode Island State Health Laboratories (RISHL) will expand its scope of ISO/IEC
17025:2017 accredited food testing by developing the method capability to test for
Cyclospora in human food product and environmental samples according to FDA BAM
method 19b. The RISHL will rely on the support of this project to acquire the equipment and
supplies including a homogenizer, platform rocker, swinging bucket rotor and buckets with
inserts for conical tubes, and other equipment an necessary to prepare samples for analysis by
FDA BAM method 19b: Molecular Detection of Cyclospora cayetanensis in Fresh Produce
Using Real-Time PCR. Support from this project will also be used to acquire Primer and
Probes for two targets (Cyclospora and IAC), to train personnel on FDA BAM method 19b
and to develop Standard Operating Procedures for the laboratory. The RISHL will participate
successfully in a proficiency study offered by a suitable proficiency provider or in a
laboratory developed exercise to demonstrate competency.
