## Abstract

Project Summary / Abstract for State of Rhode Island PAR-20-105 Laboratory Flexible
Funding Model (LFFM) (U19) Application. Discipline B: Chemistry, Track 2: Human
Food Product Testing
Project Summary/Abstract
The purpose of this project is for the Rhode Island State Health Laboratories (RISHL) to
engage in the systematic chemical analysis of human food products as part of ongoing
surveillance sampling conducted in conjunction with our partners in the RIDOH Center
for Food Protection (CFP). This surveillance program will result in the analysis of fruit
juices for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), with ultimate goal of helping
advance knowledge on potential PFAS exposure from food. This research will assist in
assessing the safety of human food from specific areas potentially affected by
environmental contamination and hopefully help identify and prioritize future activities to
reduce PFAS in human food.
