## Abstract

SC-DHEC PHL – Sample Collection
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, Public Health Laboratory intends
to work to enhance capacity and capabilities for food surveillance and foodborne outbreak response
through the Laboratory Flexible Funding Cooperative Agreement. An increased number of
surveillance samples are required under the Laboratory Flexible Funding Cooperative
Agreement. South Carolina Food Microbiology Laboratory is requesting funds to support the
purchasing of 200 human food and 250 animal food products. These products will be
purchased by the SCDA through an interagency agreement. This agreement is already an
established mechanism for the purchasing of food for surveillance purposes for samples
collected under the Food and Drug Administration’s National Antibiotic Resistance Monitoring
System (NARMS) cooperative agreement. As a member of the SC Rapid Response Team SCDA
has the necessary training and experience to collect samples in accordance with FDA rules and
regulations.
