## Abstract

Project Summary/Abstract – Track1
The overarching aim of this project is to support food defense efforts in the State of Colorado by
establishing a radioanalytical measurements laboratory capable of monitoring human and
animal food products for gamma-emitting radioactive contaminants. This laboratory will be
established with the support from the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA), which will
provide the animal food samples that will be analyzed in this laboratory. A minimum of twenty-
five animal food samples per year provided by the CDA will be analyzed for gamma-emitting
radioisotopes using high-purity germanium and sodium iodide detectors already available in the
Health Physics program at Colorado State University. Suitable laboratory space will be
dedicated to this effort and the required quality assurance and control system will be established
to ensure accuracy of the results.
