## Abstract

Project Summary/Abstract
Vet-LIRN Network Capacity-Building Projects
PAR-18-604
Breathitt Veterinary Center (BVC) seeks funding to maintain the high level of Quality
Management within the organization by purchasing new batteries for our Uninterrupted Power Supply.
The UPS provides a bridge between normal electrical power and the generators that serve as
back-up power for BVC. Power to equipment is maintained via a battery array that provides power
when the electricity supply is interrupted or the voltage drops to an unacceptable level.
Highly sensitive diagnostic equipment such as the LC/MS/MS and the ICP/MS in toxicology, the
MALDI-TOF and SensiTitre in Bacteriology and the AU7500 and Quant5 Studio in Molecular Diagnostics
have several steps to properly shut them down without losing data. The operation of these units are
also sensitive to changes in voltage that would deteriorate sensitive electronic components. This could
lead to unexplained failures and impact the accuracy of data.
The quality of test results is of utmost importance to our clients and is the basis of our Quality
System. These batteries are necessary to guarantee the most accurate results.
The cost of updated batteries for the UPS is $52,000. BVC will accept partial funding of this
project.
