## Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT
The International Pseudomonas Conference is a biennial event that brings together investigators from a full
range of interdisciplinary and emerging fields from evolution of pathogenesis, sociomicrobiology, ecology of
natural communities, biotechnology, vaccines, and synthetic biology from academia, pharmaceutical companies,
and government, to discuss common issues and share approaches to promote exchange of ideas and share
new technologies and develop fruitful collaborations related to the genus Pseudomonas. There are no other
conferences that have similar themes, focusing on diverse scientific questions and including all species of this
genus. The fact that this meeting is held in a different country every other year assures that each conference will
have a distinctive flavor. Pseudomonas 2021 will be no exception. This meeting will be held in Atlanta, Georgia
on September 27-October 1, 2021 at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center. This site was chosen was
chosen to provide easy, worldwide access and to keep meeting costs as low as possible. The goals of the
meeting will be: (1) To bring together investigators from diverse backgrounds to move the Pseudomonas field
forward. This will be accomplished by the choice of invited speakers, who have been chosen for their diversity,
expertise, collegiality, and breadth of interest. In addition to presenting their research seminar, each of the
speakers has agreed to host ‘mentoring’ tables during lunch each day in which seats are reserved for trainees
to meet and interact them. This unique activity this will help break down barriers and also provide an exceptional
networking experience for all the participants. (2) To train and mentor young investigators in the fields of
Pseudomonas research and promote diversity within the research community. Since 80% of all session platform
lectures will be selected from submitted abstracts, junior investigators, female researchers, individuals from
underrepresented, racial and ethnic groups, people with disabilities and/or scientists with young children will be
encouraged to submit abstracts for consideration. (3) To create an environment for collegial interactions and
discussions between scientists in varying areas of Pseudomonas research by including additional opportunities
for collegial discussions as well as group breakfasts and lunches, and poster sessions. Through such
interactions, a venue is provided for the exchange of ideas and information. Our goal is to attract >300
participants to the conference who reflect the breadth and depth of this vibrantly active field and present the
cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs that are on the immediate horizon. Both the co-chairs have organized
similar conferences and an excellent set of speakers have already accepted invitations giving confidence that
this meeting will be a success.
