PROJECT SUMMARY Despite evidence in favor of integrating genomics into population-level cancer prevention and control approaches through precision public health, there has been limited translation of this approach. Drawing from the two related but distinct fields – of precision medicine and public health – debate on what the common priorities are for precision public health persists. As a result, precision health scientists and public health researchers alike are at risk of missing an opportunity to improve public health and cancer prevention through precision medicine. Given that the field is still emerging, there are limited opportunities for investigators to come together, to form collaborations and to build capacity for research. Thus, our goal for this R13 application is to convene a transdisciplinary conference for leaders and early stage investigators who work in this field to support capacity building in transdisciplinary precision public health research, with a focus in oncology. Our target audience includes early career investigators in precision public health who are in a pivotal moment in their career for establishing professional networks and identifying research priorities. Our specific aims for the conference are to: (1) Increase knowledge about precision public health among participants by learning from experts in the field of precision public health through seminars and question and answer sessions; (2) Identify transdisciplinary research priorities for precision public health through a consensus-building workshop; and (3) Develop an ongoing professional network of precision public health researchers to facilitate future precision public health research, training, and practice. Through this conference, early career investigators from around the world will convene to gain new content expertise, to develop key research priorities for the field, and to establish an ongoing collaborative network to advance precision public health research in the field of oncology. Our long-term goal, beyond this initial conference, is to provide a platform for early career investigators interested in precision public health to come together on an annual basis, with supplemental quarterly webinars, to support the development of precision public health.
