# STORAGE OF NUMOM2B FETAL DNA ALIQUOTS FROM CORD BLOOD FOR THE PREGNANCY AND PERINATOLOGY BRANCH OF NICHD

## Abstract

The  NuMoM2b  study  was  a  prospective  observational  study  of  over  10,000  nulliparous  
women  followed from  the  first  trimester through  delivery to  understand  the mechanism  and  
etiology  of  adverse  pregnancy outcomes  starting  in  the  first  trimester.  It  was  conducted 
 at  eight  clinical  sites.  All  study  participants underwent  serial  evaluations  including  
demographics,  nutrition,  family  history,  maternal  anthropometric measurements, medical  
history, assessments of psychosocial  factors,  ultrasound measures  of  fetal  growth, placental  
function  (uterine  artery  Doppler)  and  biospecimen  collection  (maternal  serum,  plasma,  
urine, cervical/vaginal samples, placenta at delivery).
Dr. Haas of Indiana University will purify DNA from the cord blood specimens from each participant 
in the NuMom2b study. At his expense he will receive shipment of and generate DNA from 
approximately 5,526 cord  blood  specimens.  He  will  then  return  to  NICHD  three  aliquots  of 
 200  microliters  of  DNA  at  a concentration  of  50ng/uL  from  each  of  the  approximately  
5,526  specimens.  This  will  result  in  a  total  of 16,578 DNA  specimens  that  will  be  available  to  approved researchers  through programs  such as  NICHD DASH.
