## Abstract

NCI’s Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program (EGRP) aims to develop a database with carbon dioxide equivalents for all foods reported in the most recent nationally representative study, the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Values of greenhouse gas emissions can be recorded in kg carbon dioxide-equivalents (CO2- eq) per kg of commodity. This standard unit is used to put various gases, including carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, on the same scale. With such a database, it will allow for a unique linkage that will advance the capabilities of the Automated Self-Administered 24-Hour (ASA24) Dietary Assessment Tool, thereby allowing all researchers to link study participants dietary assessment data to this new database to examine food environmental impacts. EGRP extensively funds dietary research and this updated tool will provide a dietary assessment resource for researchers.  NCI, DCCPS, EGRP needs a diet assessment and greenhouse gas emissions expert to provide estimates of carbon dioxide equivalents for specific foods codes reported in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2015-2016). This will allow for a unique linkage with the Automated Self-Administered 24-Hour (ASA24) Dietary Assessment Tool to advance the program’s capabilities.
