Abstract

This will be the 50th Scientific Meeting for the International Society for Experimental Hematology (ISEH). The meeting is scheduled for August 26-29, 2021 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, USA. ISEH is committed to hosting ISEH 2021. In the event that it is unsafe or that we are unable to host an in- person activity, ISEH will transition to a virtual meeting as we did in 2020. ISEH continues to place great importance on the presence and participation of young investigators in both the society and the annual scientific meeting. Because of the meeting’s intimate format and specialized content, we have the potential to impact the junior scientist’ future success, emergence as leaders, scientific direction and career path. Each year, about half of our attendees are young investigators and students, which allows ISEH an opportunity to place a strong emphasis on the training and mentorship of those students and young investigators. To engage young investigators and students at the meeting, ISEH hosts several activities, including but not limited to, a pre-meeting workshop (an intimate setting for young investigators to practice presenting their posters and oral talks prior with the guidance of mentors, before the main meeting), career session (focused on career advisement and exploration of career opportunities in the field), technology session (updates on the latest technologies used in the lab), meet the expert mixer (an opportunity for one-on-one networking with top scientists from around the world), a grantmaking workshop (focused on mentoring young investigators to draft their first independent grants) and a new investigators award session (highlights the top abstracts submitted by PhD students and postdoctoral fellows). ISEH also provides opportunities for young investigators and students who have submitted strong research to apply for travel grants, which provide support for individuals who may have less funding available to attend such a meeting. These travel grants and sessions are integral to ISEH’s meeting. In addition to the young investigator focused sessions, the Scientific Program Committee takes pride in developing an outstanding lineup of speakers for all meeting attendees on topics such as tracking hematopoiesis, developmental hematopoiesis, epigenetic regulation, understanding fate decisions, and HSC biology. ISEH meetings feature some of the best unpublished research from around the world, including talks from invited speakers as well as oral and poster presentations. The faculty presenting at this meeting and our organizing committees are some of the most prestigious scientists in the field.
