Abstract

Summary The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) released a special funding opportunity to support the development and implementation of educational modules on genomic medicine for health care professionals. Six awards were announced in early fall. The proposals are diverse with respect to the target audience, educational approach, and content. However, six topics were identified to be in common among the majority of awardees. The NHGRI staff recommended the establishment of six working groups to gather content and existing resources to facilitate the development of modules on these shared topics and reduce duplicated effort. In addition, the NHGRI staff convened two all-teams meetings to discuss the strategic approach for dissemination and outreach. To coordinate and manage the activities associated with the development and implementation of the educational modules, we propose an administrative supplement to our current Implementing Genomics in Practice Pragmatic Trials Network (IGNITE PTN) Coordinating Center (CC) (5U01HG010225) award. The proposed work for the educational modules aligns with Aims 2 and 5 in the parent award to support management of the established working groups and overarching activities (Aim 2) and to communicate and disseminate information about the educational modules and supporting information gathered to develop the modules (Aim 5). Our CC is very experienced in administration and project management and has worked closely with NHGRI staff and will carry out the functions required to ensure the goals of the program in educational modules on genomic medicine for health professionals are carried out successfully. The success of this proposal will help facilitate education and training for health care professionals and enable access to content to benefit other groups interested in developing educational modules and training in genomic medicine
