## Abstract

A. ABSTRACT
The National Outreach Network (NON) seeks to strengthen NCI's ability to develop and disseminate culturally
appropriate, evidence-based cancer information utilizing community health educators (CHEs) embedded within
cancer centers across the six NON regions. In this capacity, CHEs serve as educators and liaisons between
the cancer center and medically underserved communities, ensuring that culturally and linguistically
appropriate cancer resources, materials, and education are disseminated broadly. This supplement extends
and supports the continuation and completion of the NCI NON-CHE Clinical Trials (CT) and Screen to Save
(S2S) initiatives. This extension request sets the stage for the final close-out and sustainability activities of the
S2S and CT efforts. To this end, there are two specific aims:
Aim 1: To increase awareness and knowledge about CTs and the importance of participating in CTs among
racially/ethnically diverse communities. Activities for the CT initiative will include group educational sessions
increase awareness and knowledge about CTs and the importance of participating in CTs among 150
racially/ethnically diverse men and women ages 18 year and older.
Aim 2: To increase colorectal cancer knowledge and screening rates among men and women ages 50–75
from racially and ethnically diverse communities through implementation of the NCI S2S Colorectal Cancer
(CRC) program. Activities for S2S include educating 150 age-appropriate, racially/ethnically diverse men and
women, to increase colorectal cancer knowledge and screening rates by referral and linkage to care.
The proposed activities build on the team’s prior substantive efforts from the CNP and CNPC era (since 2005),
extensive collaborations and partnerships through the institutionally supported Tampa Bay Community Cancer
Network (TBCCN)- a previous CNPC, and NON-CHE activities since 2015. Activities from both efforts include
virtual educational sessions and linkages to resources (CRC screening and educational materials and CT
resources and educational materials). Quarterly and year-end reporting will be developed to elucidate lessons
learned and best practices, and suggestions for program sustainability and expansion. A key aspect of this
report will be putting into place numerous sustainability strategies and transfer relationships to ensure that
cancer center outreach workers and health education specialists are trained to continue both efforts throughout
the center’s 15-county catchment area.
