## Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY
The 2022 Gordon Research Conference on Lymphatics will bring together leading international scientists and
clinicians working across all aspects of lymphatic vessel biology to discuss the latest advances in this exciting
and dynamic field. The meeting will feature cutting edge science in developmental biology, genetics, physiology,
aging, oncology, immunology, metabolism, mechanobiology, neurodegenerative diseases, systems biology,
mathematical modeling and human disease. Fueled by advances in our understanding of the biology and
regulation of the lymphatic vasculature and its active roles in human health and disease, the lymphatic
vasculature will continue to be a focus for novel discovery and therapeutic intervention. The primary goal for this
meeting is to serve as a forum to communicate the latest research advances in lymphatic biology as well as
provide the opportunity to build collaborative partnerships between scientists, clinicians, industry and
philanthropy. Ample opportunities for the presentation of research by early career investigators and
underrepresented minorities will be provided. It is expected that all presenters will discuss unpublished data and
be present at all meals throughout the meeting to help catalyze scientific exchange and collaboration. Building
on the success of previous years, the 2022 Gordon Research Conference on Lymphatics will be preceded by a
Gordon Research Seminar on Lymphatics organized by Drs. Kerstin Wilhelm and Nils Hansmeier. The Gordon
Research Seminar is organized by postdoctoral fellows to provide additional opportunities for junior investigators
to present their work and form collaborations with their peers. The 2022 Gordon Research Conference on
Lymphatics will also host a “Power Hour” to discuss different biases, with a focus on racial biases and burdens
placed on URMs in science in order to start to build a more diverse, equitable and inclusive research community.
We are also in discussions to hold a patient session to allow researchers to learn from patients suffering from
lymphatic diseases.
The sponsoring organization for this conference is Gordon Research Conferences, an organization dedicated to
advancing the frontiers of scientific research. In accordance with its mission, this conference will place an
emphasis on the presentation of unpublished data, high quality science and rich discussions. Participation of
investigators from different disciplines will foster growth of the field and advance knowledge not only of lymphatic
vascular biology and pathology, but also stimulate interdisciplinary research in many other fields such as
cardiovascular disease, cancer, immunology, metabolism and neurobiology, among others. The participation of
junior investigators through the Gordon Research Seminar will provide opportunities for scientific and
professional mentorship with more senior investigators as we look to grow the field in the future.
