# Administrative Core

## Abstract

The Administrative Core will provide scientific, administrative, mentorship, and logistical support to enable
completion of the proposed P01 Program “Drug, microbiome, and immune determinants of birth and
neurodevelopmental outcomes in children with exposure to HIV infection”. The Administrative Core will oversee
centralized fiscal management, project coordination, regulatory activities, communications between the
Projects and Cores in the Program, and mentorship, and dissemination strategies to engage community
members and scientific community. Weekly progress on each of the 3 Projects will be shared within Projects;
meetings summaries will be shared with the overall Program using a uniform reporting approach. A weekly
Leadership Team (MPIs John-Stewart, Kinuthia, Wamalwa) meeting will include review of all Projects. An
Executive Committee that includes all Project and Core Directors will meet monthly to review progress on
Projects. Annually, an All-Team meeting of the P01 Program will be convened in Nairobi, Kenya to review study
progress, provide mentorship opportunities, facilitate team building, and exchange ideas and explore synergies
between Projects. Annually, a group of External Technical Advisors will be convened to evaluate performance
and provide input on the P01 Program. Team data and documents will be stored in a harmonized web-based
platform for easy access between Kenya and US team members.
The Project and Core Directors have long-standing collaborations and well-established mechanisms for
communications between University of Washington and teams in Kenya. The proposed P01 Program includes
Projects in Western Kenya and Nairobi, all of which have participated in numerous collaborative research
projects with proposed P01 Program investigators. The P01 Program involves linkages with Kenyatta National
Hospital, Kenya Medical Research Institute. the University of Washington-Kenya NGO, and University of Nairobi.
In addition, national and County Ministry of Health and MCH clinic facilities will be engaged from study initiation
to completion of the Projects.
The Administrative Core will be led by Dr. Grace John-Stewart MPI P01 Program who has requisite leadership
experience and extensive collaborative research experience in Kenya for >25 years. Dr. John-Stewart will work
closely with P01 MPIs Drs. John Kinuthia and Wamalwa (P01 Program Leadership Team) to optimize synergies
between Projects, distribute resources equitably between Projects, and facilitate communications. The
Administrative Core will oversee research coordination for all three Projects, ensure standardized approaches
for data management and analysis in collaboration with the Measurements and Analysis Core, and will oversee
development of materials for dissemination and community engagement for all Projects in the Program.
