## Abstract

COGA Supplement – Project Summary
The Collaborative Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism (COGA) is a tightly integrated and interdisciplinary
project, whose overarching goals are to understand the contributions and interactions of genetic, neurobiological,
and environmental factors on risk and resilience over the developmental course of AUD. COGA is a family-based
study with rich data on an ethnically diverse group of 12,145 family members. More than 650 scientific papers
have been written using the COGA data, yet there is a clear need to communicate the vast array of findings on
genetic contributions to AUD with the public. Relevant to this mission, as part of the renewal application, COGA
incorporated a new Translational Director into its administrative structure to spearhead a translational agenda
for COGA, in collaboration with COGA investigators. We note that the grant renewal did not include any funds
earmarked for translational efforts – only a commitment to evaluating areas where COGA could make unique
contributions. The first area we have identified where there is a gap in knowledge, and where COGA is uniquely
positioned to make a significant contribution, is via the development of web-based resources for the public. In
this administrative supplement, we request funds to build out these resources to meaningfully contribute to the
translation of research findings to the public. The funds would specifically be used to (1) create engaging web-
based content, (2) conduct pilot testing to ensure the developed material is resonating with our target audience,
and (3) optimize our reach and measure impact.
