PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT The central philosophy we used in approaching this opportunity was to not include items of routine maintenance or repair, which are currently provided by our experts in facilities management. Instead, we have focused on subsystem repairs or upgrades that are considered “betterments”. Betterments are not routinely performed by facility management without an associated cost or without going through an external contractor. Therefore, the scope of our proposal is limited to facility betterments. Broadly, the betterments (or what we need) are divided into three major subareas as listed below while additional technical details are provided in the Modernization Plan. We have identified a series of high priority targets and each request is detailed within the following sections. SPACES: REMODELING OF ARTHROPOD CONTAINMENT SUITE, ANIMAL ROOMS, CHANGE ROOMS AND ROOF SYSTEM. Renovations of our change room spaces, replacement of the flat room section above our security office and breakroom, painting and drywall repairs in our mechanical spaces, upgrades of our ABSL3 space with Arcoplast ceilings and renovations to our arthropod containment suite. FACILITY SUBSYSTEM UPGRADES/BETTERMENTS. Briefly, these subsystems include the following: an elevator, upgrades to our outer fence and gates, security server and camera upgrades, upgrades to our Phoenix valves and Metasys controllers, upgrades to our steam boiler burner systems, gas system upgrades including liquid nitrogen, CO2, house vacuum and compressed air subsystems, and addition of a new suite communication system. REPLACEMENT/BETTERMENT OF CORE EQUIPMENT. To support the functionality and safety of the improved facility we have requested and identified several pieces of equipment. Requested equipment includes a new effluent decontamination system (EDS), 4 class II biosafety cabinets; 2 vaporous hydrogen peroxide area decontamination systems; upgrades/replacements for the Immunology Core and Aerobiology Core; information technology core improvements; and 2 walk-in arthropod environmental chambers.
