Summer Intern Project Summary This administrative supplement to an ongoing SBIR Phase 2 project entitled Online System for Primary Care to Prevent and Address Teen Substance Use is to add two undergraduate summer interns who will attend orientation and project team meetings and assist in tasks related to substance use in teens. This project is designed to provide pediatric primary care providers (PCPs) with an online module as part of a nationally distributed clinical process support system (CHADIS) that will collect information from teens and parents about teen health and strengths as well as any substance use then present decision support for the PCP specific to that teen to encourage avoiding or reducing substance use including referring to their strengths and goals as reasons to avoid substances and providing a teleprompter for motivational interviewing style interview suggestions as well as steps for care specific to the teen’s situation. The interns will assist project staff in testing and refining health goals chat bots and SMS messaging for teens, attend and take notes for expert focus groups reviewing the completed CRAFFT Interactive and CHADIS- cSBI Module for reducing or preventing teen substance use, conduct qualitative analyses and create charts and graphics, serve as standardized patients, giving feedback on the virtual counseling, and helping to write intervention messages provided in the app for a cannabis component, enter local resources for substance use into the CHADIS database, and other related tasks. They will write up their experiences and present to the group at the conclusion of this 8 week internship.
