# Resuscitation Strategies for Achieving Thrombo-inflammatory Homeostasis

> **NIH NIH RM1** · UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER · 2021 · $250,000

## Abstract

Project Summary
This proposal is for funds to support the purchase of an advanced liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer
system to support NIH funded work that is aimed at improving outcomes in trauma patients. The instrument is
the most advanced mass spectrometer available and will provide direct measurement of metabolites, lipids,
peptides, and proteins to address a scientific question related to all four aims of our team science award.
Unlike antibody based, or other surrogate measures of biomolecules, mass spectrometry provides a direct
measurement for specific identification and accurate quantification. The measurements are highly multiplexed
allowing for thousands to hundreds of thousands of molecules measured in a typical experiment. Significant
institutional support is being provided to cover the remaining balance required for the purchase and the
infrastructure required to ensure long term support and utilization of the instrumentation. The system will be
housed within the Shared Mass Spectrometry Resource ecosystem that the PIs of this award also direct. This
system will have a significant impact on the biomedical research outlined within the parent RM1 team science
award. The proposed mass spectrometer will be a powerful analytical tool for investigators, our collaborators
and will enable cutting-edge research. This work will support existing aims, allow for analysis of additional
clinical and translation samples to improve discoveries towards developing clinical interventions in the next
RM1 cycle and beyond.
