## Abstract

SUMMARY – ADMINISTRATIVE CORE A
A primary goal of the Administrative Core A is to ensure an interactive environment, exchange of
reagents and data, and foster a cohesive relationship among PIs of the PPG. This is a critical function,
as this proposal plans an extensively intertwined series of experiments using shared resources among
multiple laboratories. Core A will provide the requisite infrastructure to achieve the overall research
objectives of the PPG. Effective scientific management and coordination by the Administrative Core will
provide direction, oversight, and quality control for each Project and Core's research activities, and will
maximize collaboration and exchange from all participating groups. Clear scientific leadership and direct
communication by the Administrative Core will ensure optimal and transparent utilization of resources
that promotes productive long-term relationships. The Administrative Core will promulgate data sharing,
integration of projects, and communication, which will leverage the expertise of each member of the PPG
to expedite discovery and achievement of the research goals. Related to this goal, Core A will implement
a distributed data management infrastructure that will provide for easy submission and access of project
data by all PPG investigators and the timely sharing of validated datasets to relevant public data
repositories. Members of Core A also will develop a machine learning approach to identifying optimal
antigens for vaccine components based on functional readouts and correlates of cross-protection. The
Administrative Core will achieve several of these goals by providing a coherent stream of
communication, which will begin by establishing monthly meetings between Program participants under
the guidance of the Program Director, with support of the Co-Director. These meetings will be held
through video teleconference and will promote data exchange, evaluation of progress and planning as it
relates to the goals of the program and aims of individual projects. The Administrative Core also will
foster communication and organizational structure throughout the PPG in other ways. This will include
preparation of financial reports and documents for the NIH. The Administrative Core also will have
particular financial and infrastructural responsibilities particularly as it relates to oversight, compliance
with NIH and federal guidelines, and shared activities among PPG members.
