Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT The proposed UCLA-led Central Coordinating Center (CCC) for the Natural Experiment Research Centers will work across study sites to support and sustain them as a research Network evaluating natural experiments in diabetes prevention and treatment. The CCC team will build on prior experience coordinating the Natural Experiments for Translation in Diabetes (NET-D2) Network by providing common administrative and technical support for the new Network, facilitating communications between study sites and the CDC, and promoting the accomplishments of the new Network to audiences beyond those reached by an individual site. The Specific Aims for the CCC are as follows: 1. Provide logistical support to individual study sites and the CDC, specifically: a. Plan and implement regular in-person and telephone/video Network meetings in collaboration with site PIs and the CDC. b. Assist in the development of and maintenance of a governance and organizing structure for the network, including an Executive committee, Methods committee, Metrics committee, and Publications, Presentations and Ancillary studies (PP&A) committee. 2. Foster and coordinate linkages, communication and joint activities between study sites, the CDC and a broad and diverse audience of researchers, policy makers and the community, specifically: a. Facilitate cross-site collaborative activities including sharing of best analytic practices and protocols, and presentations on state-of-the-science approaches to natural experiment evaluation. b. Develop and maintain a website for the study in accordance with CDC IT standards. c. Serve a "translation" role for science, policy makers, and public audiences by disseminating Network processes, tools and results to actively demonstrate the impact of study-related analyses upon health policies related to diabetes care and prevention. 3. Implement an evaluation plan to assess the achievement of Specific Aims 1 & 2 above. We believe that our experienced 5-person team of a PI, co-PI, Project Director, Webmaster and Project Assistant, which has worked closely and successfully with the individual study sites as the Central Coordinating Center for NEXT-D2, is well positioned to coordinate the new Natural Experiments Network and help achieve the overall Network goals as outlined by the CDC.
