## Abstract

Project Summary/Abstract:
This Administrative Supplement application to Existing NIH Grants and Cooperative Agreements (PA-20-
272) proposes to strengthen and expand our NIMHD-funded biomedical data repository and biobank of
relevant bio-specimens from Caribbean Hispanic patients who reside in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico
and suffer from different cardio-metabolic conditions. It is intended to help us better enable data
discoverability, interoperability and reuse of this valuable and unique resource of our U54 program that holds
data and samples from a medically underserved, and often underrepresented minority population, by aligning
it with the FAIR and TRUST principles while using metrics to measure its effectiveness. Therefore, this
supplement will provide us with a great opportunity to increase the “FAIR”-ness and “TRUST”-worthiness of
our existing repository of Caribbean Hispanic patients in order to modernize and improve its usage, utility
and impact throughout the whole resource lifecycle. In addition, it will also expand the reach and scale of this
repository by pursuing collaborations with colleagues in the field of mental health, COVID19 and opioids use
disorders among Hispanics. In doing so we expect to contribute substantially to our mission of facilitating the
conduct of multidisciplinary collaborative efforts in minority health and health disparities with the overarching
goal of bridging current gaps to achieve healthcare equity in the population we serve. Accordingly, it is
responsive to the research objective and aligned with the purpose mentioned in the recently issued NOSI
(NOT-OD-21-089) and the NIH Strategic Plan for Data Science.
