## Abstract

The JHU CFAR Developmental Core (DC) supports novel research projects conducted by
Early-stage Investigators (ESI), and it devises new and creative methods for training, mentoring
and educating both ESI and established researchers. The principal purpose of the DC is to
foster innovation through the funding of original investigator-initiated research studies by ESIs or
faculty new to HIV research.
The DC will be responsible for the following CFAR functions: a) solicitation, review, and funding
of applications for FDAs and the small grant program, and final review of microgrants stemming
from the SWGs; b) managing and overseeing the CFAR's training and mentoring programs,
both individually and through our K club; c) identifying important recruitment opportunities and
working with the Leadership Committee to develop recruitment support packages; d) self-
evaluation; and e) establishment and maintenance of the DC components of the CFAR website.
