Objectives: The goal of this task is to develop and implement a competitive process for soliciting, identifying and funding CHS biorepository-based research projects. The projects must address research in heart, lung, blood and sleep disorders, and be relevant to older adults; whenever possible priority will be given to early career investigators. Successful applicants will ultimately be provided with an analytic dataset that includes assay, outcome, and covariate data on CHS participants that can be used to generate preliminary data for a grant application and/or to conduct analyses for an abstract or manuscript. This task is comprised of the following parts: developing a Goal statement for this Task, and metrics to use in evaluating success; developing and issuing an RFP; developing and implementing a set of review criteria (including career stage of the investigators); developing a review process to identify the most meritorious biorepository-based projects; utilizing the funds according to the intent of the CHS Steering Committee; managing, and follow-up review of, the projects to help enable the most productive outcomes; and providing required reports. These biorepository-based research projects are likely to attract new collaborators to work with CHS data, specimens, and Working Groups.
