## Abstract

Project Summary/Abstract
A Multi-Level Community Based Approach to PrEP Uptake for African American
Women.
The proposed pilot study will focus on African American adult women at risk for HIV in
geographic hotspots in Georgia and Kentucky. The goal of this project is to utilize a community-
engaged approach will to adapt and implement a culturally appropriate intervention to inform
and educate about PrEP , HIV testing, and condom use and provide peer navigation. The
intervention will consist of an educational component and navigation services. Women will be
enrolled in one of two arms of the study: ARM 1: Health Love + PrEP (HL + PrEP)and ARM 2:
Health Love only (HL). The intervention will be implemented by trained peer Community Health
Workers (CHWs). We hypothesize that the implementation of this intervention will result in
increased PrEP utilization, increased HIV testing, increased condom use, and increased service
utilization among adult African American women. The specific aims of the project are to: AIM 1:
Utilize a CBPR approach to adapt an evidence-based sexual health intervention for
African American women, ages 18 and up, at high risk for HIV in Georgia and Kentucky to
include lessons on PrEP. We will conduct focus groups and in-depth interviews with
community stakeholders, including African American women and staff from community-based
organizations to adapt the Healthy Love intervention. Aim 2: To implement and evaluate the
CBPR adapted intervention for adult African American women in Georgia and Kentucky.
We propose to implement a two-arm, randomized controlled trial with 144 African American
women (72 in Georgia and 72 in Kentucky) to compare HL + PrEP and HL. If successful, the
proposed study will provide evidence for the utility of a CBPR approach to implement an
adaptation of the evidence-based Healthy Living intervention that will contribute to Ending the
HIV Epidemic in the US.
