Abstract

The overarching goal of this research proposal is to identify new therapies by systemically investigating how the gut microbiota through nutrition alters brain functions, particularly by modifying activities within and between brain regions. The short-term goals of this research program are to develop tools to dissect the mechanisms that drive autism spectrum disorder (ASD)-like symptoms in a teleost model, which exhibits a similar composition of the gut microorganism to the ones of autism patients and core ASD-like behaviors.
