Abstract

ADMINISTRATIVE CORE - ABSTRACT The “UTMB-Novartis Alliance for Pandemic Preparedness (UNAPP)” combines UTMB’s excellence in virology & BSL4/3 facility with Novartis’ power in drug discovery & development to deliver pandemic antivirals. The Administrative Core provides the leadership and programmatic coordination required to fully realize the impact of this unique academic-industry partnership and meet the goals of the Antiviral Drug Discovery Centers for Pathogens of Pandemics Concern. We will accomplish this through the following four aims: i. implement an integrated organizational governance and programmatic structure that will promote a team science approach to antiviral drug discovery for pandemic prevention against Coronaviruses, Flaviviruses, and Henipaviruses; ii. provide integrated decision making in scientific, operational, financial, intellectual property protection and communication through cohesive and collaborative governance; iii. implement a Developmental Research Project program that will expand the center's scope and range of research while encouraging outside investigators to develop novel technology and innovative research ideas in antiviral drug discovery; and iv. implement a Mentored Project program designed to increase the availability of qualified early career researchers in antiviral discovery research by providing career development and mentored research to further their professional advancement.
