ABSTRACT Cross Training Core The Cross Training Core (CTC) harnesses the proposed ROBIN to launch an interdisciplinary/interprofessional training program to develop a future generation of radiation scientists (physician-scientists, clinicians, biologists, physicists, and data scientists) who will champion immune-radiation investigations. This program will link the diverse research strengths and expertise of investigators and institutions that have been central to the advancement of multidisciplinary cancer research. The dynamic and innovative structure of the proposed ROBIN provides an environment to nurture young scientists eager to broaden their training in the study of Radiation and Immunity. Young scientists will have ample opportunities to interact with and learn from world-class investigators and faculty who are committed to provide a comprehensive and integrated interprofessional education with the ultimate goal of facilitating cross-pollination of ideas and training the next generation of leaders in Radiation and Immunity. In an era when interprofessional education is a vital unmet need, an interconnected, multi-institutional, multidisciplinary program is necessary to link the multi-faceted strengths of ROBIN. Within the CTC educational infrastructure, ROBIN mentors, mentees, and research collaborators will meet regularly both virtually and in- person to discuss ongoing research. They will gain foundational knowledge from an organized curriculum with experts in the fields of clinical radiation oncology, medical physics, radiation/cancer biology, microbiology and immunology. Trainees will participate in international forums where cutting -edge interdisciplinary research is presented, and in initiatives that will cultivate cross-disciplinary training and research skills beyond their primary general area of training. For instance, an immunology post-doctoral fellow will learn about radiation biology while a radiation oncology resident will be able to access an elective rotation in basic immunology or physics resident will learn about the design of a clinical trial that combines radiation and immunotherapy. The ROBIN-CTC is the fertile ground on which to develop the next generation of leaders in Radiation and Immunity research and clinical care, connecting faculty and trainees with a strong interest in this rapidly emerging area of cancer research. This global interconnected program will greatly enhance training and empower participants, integrating young scientists and trainees with the greater network of experienced interprofessional faculty who share a common educational and research mission.
