Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT The 42nd International Symposium on Halogenated Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), DIOXIN 2022, will be held from October 9-14 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA at the Sheraton Hotel New Orleans o Canal Street. This will be a return of annual DIOXIN meeting to USA after 12 years (previously held in 2010 in San Antonio, Texas) Dioxin meeting has been founded to address the urgent research needs due to environmental pollution and health effect associated with the polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzo furans, as well as other halogenated persistent pollutants named in the Stockholm Convention. Over its 42 years history, the Symposium has evolved to into one of the most prestigious conferences that discusses most important and current environmental issues associated with halogenated organic pollutants and their impact on environment and human health, the methods for detection of both parent pollutants and their environmental transformation products and the methods for their removal and abatement and environmental release prevention. The meeting locations are carefully selected by the International Advisory Board (IAB) of the Symposium based on the submitted applications to ensure global reach of the meeting and uniform representation of meeting locations from all regions of the world. The 42nd Symposium program will emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of the persistent organic pollutants (POPs) problems. We are planning to invite a world renown and leading scientists to deliver plenary lectures. To enhance the participation of potential attendees and stimulate the vigorous discussions. A vibrant scientific program will cover a broad range of topics associated with the (POPs) – besides discussions on pollutants associated with the superfund sites, we are also including in the program new topics, that are representing the most current and emerging pollutants such as for example perfluorinated compounds, nano and microplastics, environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFRs). The meeting includes representation of the variety of science and engineering disciplines, from remediation strategies, policy, emission limitations, through environmental and health impact to epidemiology and environmental fate. This meeting has a format of an open public forum for presentations of most recent advances and developments in the scientific research on a broad range of issues related to the release and environmental presence of halogenated persistent organic pollutants named in the Stockholm convention as well as new and emerging contaminants. It also provides an excellent training opportunity for students and trainees, where young scientists have an opportunity to meet face-to-face, exchange ideas and engage in discussions with more experienced researchers.
