## Abstract

Abstract/Project Summary
The goal of the Clinical Research Education and Career Development (CRECD) program at
Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is to continually respond to the critical need for trained
clinical and translational researchers with appropriate cultural sensitivity and perspectives in
health areas that disproportionately impact minority and underserved populations. This renewal
will continue our tradition of identifying highly motivated doctorally prepared underrepresented
minority (URM) candidates early in their academic career. In Component I, they will participate
in courses within our established MSCR curriculum for skills development and research
experiences. Component II will provide pilot project support and mentoring in clinical and
translational research (CTR) focused on health disparities. The renewal will utilize new
online/virtual training capability to expand the reach of the program both within MSM and across
CTSA partner institutions/collaborators. We will further expand our educational activities with a
primary focus on research experiences and courses for skills development with personalized
training pathways for doctoral trained health professionals/scholars and the flexibility to develop
new skills to address health equity by accomplishing the following Specific aims:
Specific Aim 1: Promote and enhance personalized career development of URM postdoctoral
trained health professionals/scholars at MSM through collaboration with CTSA graduate degree-
granting programs at MSM, Emory, UGA, and Georgia Tech and prepare them to become
successful CTR investigators and leaders of multidisciplinary research teams focused on health
disparities.
Specific Aim 2: Strengthen the partnership with the National Research Mentoring Network
(NRMN) to provide access to professional development and mentor training
Specific Aim 3: Support and innovate the CRECD program with didactic and mentored CTR
training to CRECD scholars and other trainees
