## Abstract

Project Summary
The Clin-STAR Coordinating Center (Clin-STAR CC) brings together clinician-investigators from across the
United States who are committed to careers focused on aging research. The Clin-STAR CC provides career
development opportunities and fosters transdisciplinary connections with a particular focus on early-career
investigators (ECIs). The Clin-STAR CC has a strong focus on mentoring and career development and its
leadership has a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA). This
commitment is built on the understanding that a robust scientific research community depends on mentorship
and engagement with researchers from diverse backgrounds and experiences. The field benefits and is
elevated by exchanging ideas across experiences. This supplement fits within the scope of the parent CLIN-
STAR award with a focus on the development of clinician-scientists, especially ECIs who have not yet been
engaged in aging/geriatrics research; those from institutions that lack robust aging/geriatrics research
programs and/or mentorship; and others who are at institutions with greater access to vulnerable populations
of older persons, including underrepresented groups. The Clin-STAR CC will also focus efforts on mid-career
clinician investigators with “train the trainer” educational programs. The overall goals of the supplement will be
to leverage the opportunities and activities offered through Clin-STAR CC and extend its reach to further
develop future leaders in aging research. The goals will be achieved by the following: Aim 1: Enhance and
expand current Clin-STAR activities with increased attention to and training of leaders and mentors in the
concepts of DEIA, mentoring diverse transdisciplinary clinician-scientists, and expanding resources to address
DEIA; and Aim 2: Pilot new initiatives and develop enduring training materials with a DEIA lens to understand
and address the intersection of health disparities and aging research that will establish the foundation for broad
implementation and sustainability.
