## Abstract

Summary
The Research Supplement to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research to the parent grant
1R01AG065569-02A1 will provide support for the training of Dr Santos-Báez. The 2-year
duration of the Research Supplement to Promote Diversity is driven by a number of factors
including the necessary amount of required training in: 1) The ABC of clinical research (ethics,
IRB applications, responsible conduct of research, rigor of data collection and data recording,
establishing a manual of procedure); 2) Methods for assessment of energy balance and glucose
metabolism used in the parent grant; 3) Critical review of literature pertinent to the project; 4)
Principle of statistical analyses; 5) Scientific writing of abstracts, poster and manuscripts. The
timing of this Supplement will coincide with year 3 and 4 of a 5-year parent R01 (end date
6/30/2025). The proposed Diversity Supplement will provide needed training in the design and
execution of a clinical trial of time restricted eating in older adults with obesity and prediabetes.
The career goal of Dr. Santos-Báez is to become an independent investigator conducting
interdisciplinary research with a specific focus on becoming a leader in prevention of metabolic
diseases in vulnerable populations. Ultimately, completion of this proposal will establish career
launching trajectory in obesity and dysmetabolism. At the completion of the 2-year training, the
candidate should be able to develop novel hypotheses, propose appropriate study design and
methods to test these hypotheses, and write a K award application.
