# The genetic basis for age-related hearing loss in outbred mice

> **NIH NIH R01** · UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO · 2023 · $462,081

## Abstract

Summary
Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) has been linked to age-related cognitive decline. To date, no studies have
looked in detail at these two processes in a preclinical animal model. In this proposal we will, for the first time,
characterize the age-related changes in neural connectivity within the inner ear and brain in a premature aging
mouse model and explore the potential for two small molecules to prevent/regenerate these lost synapses.
