Abstract

Administrative Core: Summary/Abstract The overall goal of the ADNI Administrative Core is to ensure the success and impact of the entire grant. Dr. Weiner, PI, first proposed ADNI in 2001 and has led the project since its funding in 2004 through to the most recent proposed phase, ADNI4, which builds on successes of over 3600 publications. Recently, we led the project through the challenging COVID crisis, largely achieving enrollment goals. Despite many efforts, ADNI previously reported poor enrollment of underrepresented populations (URPs, e.g., Black, Latinx, and Asian individuals). In response, we established a Diversity Task Force, which substantially increased ADNI3 URP enrollment, resulting in the creation of the Engagement Core. Furthermore, the Administrative Core launched two pilot projects demonstrating feasibility of remote blood collection at local phlebotomy centers and digital recruitment of URPs. ADNI4 adds an ambitious plan to combine these efforts to recruit URPs using digital screening, then administer blood testing. The goals of the Administrative Core will be achieved by (1) providing overall leadership while continuing to shape the long-term strategic plan; (2) monitoring all aspects of the project including all day-to-day administrative, regulatory, financial, and scientific operations of all Clinical Sites, Cores and Project 1; (3) providing the online infrastructure for digital marketing and recruitment of new participants emphasizing URPs, including digital screening and referral for phlebotomy at local centers leading to selection of in-clinic enrollments and digital assessments for longitudinal monitoring. The Administrative Core consists of (1) staff to manage financial/regulatory items and organize meetings; (2) scientists to analyze ADNI imaging, biomarker, genetics, and clinical/neuropsychological data; (3) information technology (IT) team to create and support the digital infrastructure for recruitment and longitudinal monitoring. In summary, the Administrative Core provides overall leadership, monitors scientific and financial activity, provides IT infrastructure for digital screening and longitudinal monitoring, and ensures that Clinical Sites, Cores, and Project 1, work as a cohesive whole towards our goal: Validation of Biomarkers for AD clinical trials.
