## Abstract

Since the ‘original budget’ was proposed before the COVID-19 pandemic, expenses related to
the pandemic were unanticipated and are requested. These expenses are needed and/or required
in compliance with the guidelines set by the Philippine government’s Department of Trade and
Industry (DTI) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for workplace prevention
and control of COVID-19. We believe, though the levels of infections and quarantines fluctuate,
it is prudent to maintain these guidelines in line with minimum health standards, given daily
exposure to and close contact with the community. Thus, to minimize and help manage and cope
with potential infections and transmissions for the protection, safety and well-being of the project
personnel and the respondents, supplemental funds are requested for the following items:
 1. COVID insurance. This is a type of health insurance that covers COVID-19
hospitalizations, usually annual coverage. Requested for all project personnel (29). The
guidelines recommend enhancing employee health insurance.
 2. COVID testing. Since we have field personnel that will be in close contact with
respondents, and who interacts with all other project personnel (including in project vans
that transport interviewer teams), infections can be minimized if regular testing is done.
 3. Thermal scanner. This will be used for checking/monitoring temperatures of field staff
and respondents each day before commencing interviews and assessments. If either the
field personnel or respondent has fever (and/or other respiratory symptoms), interviews
 will be cancelled and rescheduled.
 4. PPE packs. This includes personal protective supplies for both personnel and
respondents. For personnel, this includes masks and alcohol. Respondents will be given a
pack with masks, alcohol, soap and a pen. The masks, alcohol, and soap will be used
during the interviews and in between assessments. The pen will be used to sign study
documents (i.e., consent forms), and will not be taken back as additional incentive as well
as to minimize contact with potentially infected material (and allay fears of respondents
 about using infected supplies).
 5. Multivitamins. These will be given to project personnel to support or boost the general
health and well-being, particularly support immune functions. The Philippine government
guidelines encourage employers to provide medications and vitamins.
