## Abstract

Summary of the Request. We are requesting funds for the purchase of a microwave synthesizer, the
Biotage Initiator+ with Robot Eight, to enable the precise and efficient synthesis of complex organic
molecules. Microwave-based synthesis represents an established method for chemical synthesis, especially
for reactions that require high temperatures, due to its ability to provide higher yields, fewer side products,
and shorter reaction times. This reactor will enable us to perform complex organic syntheses under
controlled conditions of intense, even heat from a safe microwave source. Additionally, the auto-sampler
accessory will facilitate the optimization of reaction conditions and the exploration of a wider range of
reaction substrates. Overall, the reactor will significantly enhance our ability to complete the work outlined
in our grant, “New Methods and Strategies for the Concise Synthesis of Complex Indole Alkaloids” (NIH-
NIGMS 5R01GM144663-02).
