SUMMARY/ABSTRACT This application seeks five years of continued support for the P51 Base Grant (OD 011132) for the operation of the Emory National Primate Research Center (ENPRC) of Emory University. The overarching goals of the ENPRC are to conduct research programs focused on scientific problems relevant to human health and the NIH mission by providing resource infrastructure and expertise in appropriate scientific and veterinary specialties and to ensure the Center’s ability to serve as a resource to Core and Affiliated Scientists, as well as to other scientists regionally, nationally and internationally. During the 2016 - 2021 reporting period, the ENPRC has recorded remarkable progress, as evidenced by numerous (>550) publications, construction of new animal facilities, and continued robust research funding. In addition, the ENPRC has maintained outstanding core research programs and provided resources and services to a broad multidisciplinary network of affiliate and collaborative investigators throughout the region and nation. We utilize a building automation system to monitor and control various electric, electronic, and mechanical systems for efficient and reliable operation of the building support infrastructure. This supplement proposal seeks support to upgrade our current Siemens Building Automation System (BAS), which is no longer supported by Siemens and presents vulnerability to potential cyberattacks. The upgraded system will enable more reliable and secure building control as well as optimization of energy consumption in the three main research buildings at the ENPRC Main Station. This upgrade is essential not only for efficient and reliable building operations but also for the secure network infrastructure that supports over $140 million in NIH-funded research at the ENPRC. This proposed project is within the scope of the parent award; however, there is no overlap with work already funded in the parent award.
