## Abstract

ABSTRACT – Component: Administration Core
The Southwest Center for Resilience in Climate Change and Health (SCORCH) will bring together a
transdisciplinary research group to conduct solutions-oriented team-science projects responsive to the human
health needs of Arid Lands communities adapting to climate change. The Administrative Core (AC) is the main
coordinating core for the SCORCH center. The primary objectives of the AC will be to identify research partners
who are interested in working to develop a research-solutions-action pipeline in connection aligned with
community priorities identified by the CEC assessments. The AC will identify and coordinate activities for an
Internal Advisory Board that consists of scientists from a broad range of disciplines; climate science, geography,
planning, anthropology, public health, engineering, and others to develop new and enhance the current Research
Focus Groups; 1) Extreme weather events and human health outcomes, 2) Forecasting and Early Warning, and
3) Adaptive Responses to the Built Environment. Transdisciplinary science teams will be developed during the
planning phase following phased models of transdisciplinary team building. This will create the level of
understanding, communication, and trust needed for transdisciplinary research to be developed. The AC will
provide opportunities for researchers to build careers that focus on health equity and environmental justice
through training opportunities.
