## Abstract

The UCSD U19 Administrative Core A will be responsible for the overall coordination, communication, and 
management of this U19 Program. Duties of this UCSD Administrative Core A will include a plan for
administering the AADCRC Infrastructure and Opportunity Fund (IOF) as requested in the RFA.
Administrative Core A will have a structure administered by the PI in consultation with the UCSD U19 
executive committee to coordinate the optimal functioning of the UCSD U19 by organizing monthly U19 
scientific meetings as well as monthly U19 administrative and budget meetings. The PI will be 
administratively assisted by a budget administrator and an administrative assistant. The coordination of the 
optimal functioning will include the management, allocation, and prioritization of fiscal and other resources 
including travel to the annual U19 meeting in DC. An External Advisory Board will contribute to the successful 
function of this UCSD U19.To ensure excellent communication between the Projects and Cores comprising 
the UCSD U19, Administrative Core A will notify U19 investigators of planned scientific and administrative 
meetings, IOF funding announcements, and assist in the establishment of new U19 collaborations. 
Administrative Core A will also organize zoom conference calls, and in person meetings, for co-investigators 
located outside UCSD and arrange for travel to the annual U19 meeting in DC. To ensure the successful 
management of the UCSD U19, Administrative Core A will evaluate the progress of each Project and Core 
based on their projected annual milestones, and establish an environment that encourages collaboration and 
the use of UCSD “Severe Asthma Core B” resources. In addition, Core A will provide mechanisms for conflict 
resolution, and a PI leadership succession plan if needed. If selected by NIAID to administer the IOF funds,
the PI will establish an administrative structure to manage the IOF which will include disbursing and tracking 
IOF funds awarded to new investigators, collaborative grants, and travel awards under the direction of the 
Steering Committee. In addition, the PI, his budget administrator, and the UCSD contracts office will 
implement plans for interacting with the institutions that will receive IOF funds, including establishing 
consortium agreements, when applicable. The PI and his budget administrator will also establish procedures, 
formats, and timelines for reporting on the status of IOF projects and expenditures to the NIAID and the 
AADCRC Steering Committee.
